Address Change Checklist: What to Update After You Move in India

The boxes are unpacked — but your move isn't truly done until your address is updated everywhere that matters. Miss one and you risk lost mail, failed deliveries or KYC problems. Work through this checklist in your first couple of weeks at the new home.

Government & Identity

• Aadhaar — update online at the UIDAI portal or a nearby Aadhaar centre.
• Voter ID — update your constituency/address.
• Driving licence & vehicle RC — update the address with the RTO.
• Passport — apply for re-issue with the new address if needed.
• PAN — update the address in your records.

Banking & Finance

• Bank accounts, passbooks and cheque books
• Credit/debit card billing address
• Insurance policies (life, health, vehicle)
• Mutual funds, demat and investment accounts
• EPF / workplace HR records

Utilities & Services

• Electricity and water connection
• LPG / piped gas (transfer the connection)
• Broadband, DTH and mobile postpaid billing address
• Newspaper, milk and other subscriptions

Daily Life

• Online shopping addresses (Amazon, Flipkart, food & grocery apps)
• Children's school records and transport
• Doctor, chemist and your new local services
• Employer, and any government scheme/ration card linkage

Smart Tips

• Do identity documents first (Aadhaar/licence) — many other updates need them as proof.
• Keep a copy of a utility bill or rent agreement at the new address as address proof.
• Make a checklist and tick items off — it's easy to forget the small subscriptions.
